Organizations ally to host mentorship focus esports event

CARSON, Calif. – The award-winning CSUDH Esports program, which is centered on the principal domain areas of: academic research, community engagement, competition, and entertainment, is pleased to announce the launch of its new partnership with the Scholars Collective of Long Beach, an organization that specializes in planning meaningful activities for youth scholars. To commemorate this historic alliance, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held this past Saturday, August 28th, at the Scholars Collective new educational facility, located at 236 E. Third Street in Long Beach. As part of the ribbon-cutting activities, CSUDH Esports team members organized a mentorship focused esports gaming tournament for the young Scholars as a way to demonstrate the infinite possibilities that the Esports field has to offer.

Ruben Caputo, the CSUDH Esports Team’s Academic Advisor, stressed the importance of this initiative as a way for the Esports team to contribute to the greater good of the community. “It is a major honor to be working alongside with Scholars Collective, we believe in peer-to-peer mentorship and our CSUDH students will have an opportunity to help younger scholars,” he elaborated. “This will also bring more collaborative opportunities for our program and highlight our CSUDH students who will promote tutoring and mentorship support.” Special Guest in attendance Roshan Uma Esports Facilitator from Norco College said, “I had the privilege to join the CSU-Dominguez Hills Esports community for an afternoon of esports, education and engagement with Scholars Collective”.

As for the Scholars Collective, the ability to tap into the CSUDH Esports teams’ mentorship skills provided a wonderful opportunity. The Scholars Collective founder, Dr. Angela Macias, who boasts a 20-year background in educational studies, was excited about the potential dynamic between the organizations. “I am so impressed with how much the CSUDH Esports team is focused on community service and setting a positive example in the world of gaming and technology! We want these kinds of mentors for the youth in our programs…to show the community how in-touch we are with youth culture, but also want to connect them with positive mentors like our Toros!”
